Flagyl

Flagyl tablets contain the active ingredient metronidazole.

Metronidazole belongs to the class of medications called antibiotics. It is used for the treatment of infections caused by certain bacteria. It is most commonly used for abdominal, vaginal, and intestinal infections.

It does help control a flare up but the side effects are awful. I’ve used it occasionally over the past 5 years but only as a last resort and only for a short time, at most one week. The worst side effect is the unbearable metallic tase and lack of appetite. It does work well in tandem with Prednisone so it can be helpful to quickly quash a flare up before it gets out of hand thus limiting the need for prolonged doses of prednisone or other costly medicines.

I also fear taking other antibiotics [for other infections] as they increase the symptoms of Colitis. Flagyl seems to be safe in this regard.
