Spiking Prednisone levels

Has anyone tried spiking the prednisone levels for a couple of days
to squash a flare?
Let me explain. I was on 10 mg pred before my recent flare. The
flare started very strongly, I resisted upping the pred for 3 days
then I upped it to 20 mg [using my 'if needed method']. The need
seemed to last only 2 days. On the 3rd day 15 mg sufficed. After
that I decided to abandon my ‘if needed’ method and settled on 15 mg
even though I suspect back to 10 mg would have been OK. [Too many
people on these lists scared me!]
So my question is can one spike up the pred level for, say, 2 days
and then back to the usual levels in order to tame a flare? In other
words can a 2 day spike warrant a tapering down?

I’d doubt that a two day spike would warrant tapering afterwards. My
allergist prescribed 20 mg for three days with no tapering at all. I’d
imagine that if one took much more than that, however, it could be
different, and then it might be necessary to taper, even if it were only
for a few days.
